Scaring and stalking 0-10

When someone else does things that make you feel frightened, scared or embarrassed, this is called harassment.

What is harassment?

Examples of harassment are:

  • horrible phone calls or nasty emails;
  • saying things which make you feel scared;
  • breaking things to scare you – such as smashing windows.

When someone repeatedly harasses someone else, this is called stalking.

What is stalking?

Examples of stalking are:

  • always following someone and/or turning up at the same place as them;
  • spying on someone; and
  • not going away when someone asks.

Stalking can also happen online and through social media and is called cyber-stalking. Read more about cyber-stalking and cyber-bullying.

What can I do if I’m being harassed or stalked by someone else?

Being stalked or harassed may make you feel scared to go out or frightened to go on to social media.

Harassment and stalking are against the law and the police can help to stop the person who is making you feel scared. If you’re being harassed or stalked:

  • tell an adult that you trust. They will help you;
  • speak to Voice. We’ve helped loads of people just like you who’ve had to deal with this; or
  • call the police. If you feel you are in danger, contact the police immediately by calling 999.
